Sampuru
Japanese term, from English ‘sample’. Realistic replica of a food product, exhibited in many restaurants in Japan, and used to present dishes and prices to the client.
From plastic noodles bowl to silicone panty. Like the organic dish, the moving clothing is transformed into a fixed and fragmented replica, representative of a French fantasy about Japan. « Made in JAPON ». A project which can not be dissociated from its point of view. Kemonomimi accessories and our school girl outifits displayed under neon lights of a French small shop. This is a Japan with an ambivalent culture, all at once strict and traditional, extravagant and global. Both parts are responding, feeding each other: excess was borned from restraint, prudishness stays essential to fantasy. « Sampuru – an example of clothing » presents a store in which indecent underwears are replaced by their siliconed ersatz, coarsed representation, far from fine lingerie. To the already fantasized Japon is added a (rough) layer of clothing reverie.
